Port Protection and Security TAG

David Jean-Marie

Chair of the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) on Port Protection and Security

Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer - Barbados Port Inc. (BPI)

Barbados’ re-election as Chair of the Port Protection and Security Technical Advisory Group, for us signals a tremendous vote of confidence in our leadership.

We are truly grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve the OAS member states and unreservedly re-commit to the tasks at hand.

We remain cognisant of our three major responsibilities: - 1) organization of a Technical Hemispheric Conference; 2) preparation of a compendium of materials and best practices and 3) expansion of our Associate Membership.

Whilst working toward the goal of enabling better equipped members states that are well-positioned to anticipate, prepare, prevent and respond to crisis scenarios, we are also focussed on enhancing knowledge of international security tactics, technologies, cyber security trends and critical infrastructure maintenance. This is in addition to exploring how ports can better integrate with the wider supply chain. Of course, we intend also to continue to provide platforms and opportunities to leverage networking and shared experiences.

We anticipate an exciting journey of balancing the competing goals of commercial efficiency and adherence to global standards for port safety and security.

This TAG is indeed fortunate to have the support of Commander Enrique Ochoa, commissioned by the Mexican Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) during the period 2023 to 2025 and we extend sincere thanks and appreciation to Commander Ochoa.
