The Port Safety and Security Technical Advisory Groups (TAG) works with ports, port authorities, and other stakeholders in the Western Hemisphere to balance the competing goals of commercial efficiency and adherence to global standards for port safety and security. The Port Safety and Security TAG support educated decision-making on the implementation of these standards and related certifications, including the investments, financing, and cost-benefit analyses that inform these decisions. Although the ideal equilibrium varies by port, the TAG assists ports and port authorities in seeking this balance by providing a mechanism for sharing of best practices and lessons learned, facilitating training, and offering a platform upon which to communicate regarding port safety and security issues at the hemispheric level.
In 2016 and beyond, the Port Safety and Security TAG looks forward to continuing to facilitate training’s with the United States Coast Guard and others, conducting a hemispheric survey on port and maritime cyber security, and organizing a hemispheric conference on port safety and security.
